Please join us on February 13, 2019 at the Northern District of Illinois Court History Museum (located at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse) to hear author Liesl Olson discuss her new book, Chicago Renaissance.  The book is a celebration of Chicago and its centrality to the modernist movement.  Ms. Olson traces Chicago’s cultural development from the 1893 World’s Fair through mid-century, illuminating how Chicago writers revolutionized literary forms during the first half of the twentieth century.  This event is complimentary to all Club members.  We invite you to take this opportunity to view the new museum, which celebrates 200 years of federal court history in Illinois.

Liesl Olson is Director of Chicago Studies at the Newberry Library. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Olson grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University.  She received her doctorate in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University in New York City, and for four years she taught at the University of Chicago as a Harper-Schmidt Fellow.  She has received fellowships from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Newberry Library.

The event will open at 5:00 p.m. to allow time to view the museum before Ms. Olson’s presentation begins at 5:40 p.m. Following the presentation, please join us at the Berghoff Bar for a no-host gathering (cash bar).
