Artificial Intelligence and the Practice of Law

According to Google’s AI Assistant, while there is no single official, real-time global tracker, a database maintained by a French lawyer and AI researcher lists over 156 cases where lawyers cited fake AI-generated cases in court documents as of mid-2025, with reports indicating a total of over 500 lawyers have faced sanctions.

Join us on January 13, 2026, for lunch at the Union League Club when Donna Haddad and Daniel Linna discuss the intersection of artificial intelligence and the practice of law.

Donna Haddad was most recently Vice President and Associate General Counsel, IBM Consulting Americas and AI Global Leader. Donna was a Founding Board Member of IBM’s Responsible Technology Board and helped establish the company’s first AI and data governance program. Donna is a seasoned executive lawyer with more than 25 years of experience helping navigate complex technology, privacy, and intellectual property issues and more than eleven years of experience in AI ethics and governance. As the senior counsel for Watson AI in 2014, she played a critical part in driving global growth of IBM’s new AI technology, and as senior regional counsel for the Middle East, and North and West Africa, she lived abroad and supported forty countries in a General Counsel role. Donna’s commitment to service extends beyond her corporate work. She led IBM’s Global Pro Bono Program and has spent over two decades supporting nonprofit organizations through board leadership, advisory roles, and community work.

Daniel W. Linna Jr. has a joint appointment at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and McCormick School of Engineering as the Director of Law and Technology Initiatives and a Senior Lecturer.
