Conversation with Chief Judge Virginia M. Kendall and Former Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer

The Lawyers Club of Chicago is honored to host an interview between Chief Judge Virginia M. Kendall of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and former Chief Judge, Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer. This event, which is sure to be enlightening, will be held on September 11, 2024 at the Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Boulevard. Registration and networking will begin at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be served at noon, and our program will conclude at 1:30 p.m. Tickets at $80 for members and $85 for non-members.

Chief Judge Kendall was appointed to the federal bench in January 2006. She is the co-author of Child Exploitation and Trafficking:  Examining Global Enforcement and Supply Chain Challenges and U.S. Responses (Rowman & Littlefield 2016) and Child Exploitation and Trafficking: Examining the Global Challenges and the U.S. Responses (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers 2012), with T. Markus Funk.  Judge Kendall teaches human trafficking, supply chain law, and public corruption at University of Chicago Law School, Northwestern University School of Law, and Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  She was the Peter and Patricia Gruber Fellow in Women’s Rights at Yale Law School in 2018. She has authored numerous articles on a variety of topics including international human rights, human trafficking, public corruption, and transnational investigations.

Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer became chief judge of the court in 2019 and served as chief judge from 2019 to 2024. She assumed senior status on August 1, 2024. From 1985 until 1991, Judge Pallmeyer was an administrative law judge with the Illinois Human Rights Commission, a quasi-judicial agency responsible for enforcement of the state’s anti-discrimination laws. On October 1, 1991, she was appointed a United States magistrate judge for the Northern District of Illinois and served as presiding magistrate judge from 1996 until 1998. In 1997, President Clinton nominated her for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, where she has served since October 1998.
