Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois in Conversation

Please join us on November 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Union League Club for lunch with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois in conversation with Lawyers Club board member Rowe Snider about Senator Durbin’s distinguished career in public service.

Senator Durbin is the 47th U.S. Senator from the State of Illinois, the state’s senior senator, and the convener of Illinois’ bipartisan congressional delegation. He will be retiring at the end of his term this year.

Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, he attended Assumption High School and later graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S. and J.D. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 and served there until he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996. Re-elected in 2002, 2008, 2014, and 2020, Durbin filled the seat left vacant by the retirement of his long-time friend and mentor, U.S. Senator Paul Simon.

Durbin serves as the Senate Democratic Whip, the second highest ranking position among Senate Democrats. He also serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and sits on the Appropriations and Agriculture Committees.

Rowe Snider is counsel at Troutman Pepper Locke where his practice includes insurance insolvency and class actions.

As he prepares to emerge from the crucible of politics, Senator Durbin’s reflections on his work for the people of Illinois for more than 40 years is sure to be as interesting as informative.
