President’s Letter: 2022-2023

President’s Letter: 2022-2023

Dear Lawyers Club Member,

We began the 2021 fall season with a continuation of virtual events, featuring speakers Seventh Circuit Judge David Hamilton, University of Chicago political science professor James Lindley Wilson, and diplomat David L. Carden.  By the spring of 2022, we were delighted to resume live, in-person events which attendees very much appreciated and enjoyed. These included a Theater in Chicago event at the Goodman Theatre, a discussion by law professors and authors Joseph Kearney and Thomas Merrill about their book, Lakefront, and to cap off the season, a tremendously successful and well-attended event featuring Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Evans in his 30th year on the bench. We received great feedback from you and, on behalf of our entire Board of Directors, we would like to thank you for supporting our Club during the last two challenging years of primarily virtual programming.

This coming 2022-2023 membership year, we are excited to return to a full schedule of live, in-person events. We look forward to seeing each other in-person, as there certainly is no substitute for that part of the membership experience. For our kick-off event, we are planning a group outing to Ravinia to see Hubbard Street Dance perform on Friday, September 16, 2022 preceded by a tour of the new Music Box Experience and conversation with senior Ravinia staff. Members and their friends and family are welcome to attend. Registration details will be circulated soon. Additionally, we are planning a fall event featuring Dr. Claudia Fegan, Chief Medical Officer of Cook County Health and advocate for healthcare access. Additional fall and spring speakers will be published in future event announcements.

In anticipation of a full schedule of in-person events this year, the Board has decided to maintain annual dues amounts at $200 for Active Members and $100 for Senior Members and Young Lawyers.

Accompanying this letter is a dues renewal notice which includes instructions on renewing your membership, which can easily be done through our website. The Club relies on member dues to defray the administrative expenses that we incur in operating the Club, including the cost of our website, payments platform, and administrative support. The Club would not be able to do what it does without the financial support of members, like you. Thank you in advance for promptly renewing your membership. And if you enjoy the fellowship and the informative speakers at our events, please invite a friend or family member to attend an event with you or to apply for membership.

It is a privilege to serve as your President this year, and I look forward to seeing you at our events. As always, if you have any suggestions for speakers or any other matter, please email us at attorneys@lawyersclubchicago.org.

Thank you for your continued membership, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Very truly yours,

Maureen C. Mullen
President
