The Battle of Lincoln Park
Urban Renewal and Gentrification in Chicago
Please join us for a happy hour reception at Marshall’s Landing in the Merchandise Mart to hear author Daniel Kay Hertz discuss his new book, The Battle of Lincoln Park. Mr. Hertz tells the story of gentrification in the City of Chicago, beginning in Old Town and spilling over into Lincoln Park — a process that fundamentally transformed the city in the aftermath of World War II. His book describes the conflicts between developers and long-time residents over fifty years ago, and explores how those conflicts set the tone for changes that continue to shape Chicago today. Mr. Hertz is a policy analyst and writer who focuses on urban issues. He received his B.A. from Harvard in 2010 and an M.P.P. from the University of Chicago in 2015.
