An Interactive Conversation with Jerome (Jerry) Larkin, Administrator of the Illinois ARDC
Please join us for an interactive conversation with Jerome (Jerry) Larkin, who has served as Administrator of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) since 2007. During Jerry’s tenure, the ARDC has focused on the development of education and outreach programs for the profession and the public on the ethical duties of lawyers, the development of remedial programs to address lawyer misconduct at an earlier stage of intervention (including diversion and LAP referrals), and modernizing and improving the operation of the ARDC disciplinary process, among other initiatives. Jerry will be retiring at the end of 2023, and we will have an opportunity to get his thoughts on the state of the profession today, the challenges ahead, and the changes he has seen over his remarkable 45-year career with the agency.
Jerry started with the ARDC as Staff Counsel in 1978 after receiving his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law and being licensed to practice, investigating and prosecuting lawyer disciplinary cases. He later served as the agency’s Chief Counsel, Assistant Administrator, and Deputy Administrator, among other positions, culminating with his service as Administrator for the past 16 years. He is also an ex officio member of the Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board. He is a past President of the National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC) and a recipient of the NOBC President’s award for lifetime achievement in the field of lawyer regulation. He is also a past recipient of the ABA CoLAP Meritorious Service Award and the Michael J. Howlett, Jr. Award from the Lawyers’ Assistance Program of Illinois.
