Judge Hamilton has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit since his appointment by President Barack Obama in 2009. From 1994 to 2009, he was a judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. From 2008 to 2009, he served as chief judge. Previously, he was in private practice in Indianapolis from 1984 to 1994, with a break from 1989 to 1991 to serve as counsel to Governor Evan Bayh of Indiana. Judge Hamilton received his undergraduate degree from Haverford College in 1979 and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1983.
