Professor Barbara Risman: Where the Millennials Will Take Us – A New Generation Wrestles With the Gender Structure
Millennials (per convention, born between 1980 and 1996) are an enigmatic group. They have been described by some as impatient, lazy, and entitled. In reality they are racially and ethnically diverse, entrepreneurs, well educated, and socially conscious. They also are our sons, daughters, friends, and colleagues. What does this group portend for our families, businesses, and society?
Please join us for a reception at Marshall’s Landing in the Merchandise Mart to hear author Doctor Barbara Risman discuss her new book, Where the Millennials Will Take Us. In this book Doctor Risman uses her gender structure theory to tackle the question about whether Millennials are pushing forward the gender revolution or backing away from it. In ground-breaking research she offers a view of how today’s young people wrestle with gender during the years of emerging adulthood.
Barbara Risman is Professor and Head of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
